How to make seamoss gel

Here's a step-by-step guide to soak seamoss and make seamoss gel:

What You Need:

  • Dried seamoss
  • Fresh filtered water
  • Bowl
  • Blender
  • Glass jar (for storing the gel)

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Inspect and Rinse the Seamoss

  • Inspect your dried seamoss to remove any visible dirt or debris.
  • Place the seamoss in a bowl and rinse it thoroughly under cool running water. Rub the seamoss gently to remove any sand, salt, or other particles.
  • Repeat the rinsing process 2-3 times until the seamoss is clean.

2. Soak the Seamoss

  • After rinsing, place the clean seamoss in a large bowl and cover it with fresh filtered water.
  • Allow the seamoss to soak for 12 to 24 hours. During this time, it will expand significantly, become soft, and double or triple in size. (Optional: You can change the water halfway through soaking to ensure freshness.)
  • There’s no need to refrigerate it during this step. Leave it out on the counter, covered loosely.

3. Rinse Again (Optional)

  • After soaking, you can rinse the seamoss one more time to remove any residue left over from the soaking process.

4. Blend into a Gel

  • Drain the soaked seamoss, but save the soaking water.
  • Add the seamoss to a blender and pour in some of the soaking water. Start with a small amount of water (about 1/2 to 1 cup, depending on the quantity of seamoss) and gradually add more until you reach your desired consistency.
  • Blend on high until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy, forming a gel-like texture.

5. Store the Seamoss Gel

  • Pour the blended seamoss gel into a clean glass jar with a lid.
  • Seal the jar tightly and store it in the refrigerator.
  • Seamoss gel will thicken as it cools and typically lasts up to 3-4 weeks in the fridge.

Optional Tips:

  • Flavor Additions: Some people add ingredients like lime juice or cinnamon to improve flavor.
  • Freezing: You can freeze seamoss gel in ice cube trays for longer storage and easy portioning. Frozen seamoss gel can last for up to 3 months.

Uses:

  • Add the gel to smoothies, teas, soups, sauces, or directly to your skincare routine for its natural benefits!
